The computer’s world is divided into two parts: hardware, the mechanical part of the system and software, the intelligent part of the machine, that is, the program of instructions. The hardware is visible and tangible because it includes the machine itself and the peripheral devices. The software is considered to be the soul of the machine, because the programs tell the computers what to do. We might say that a computer without software is like a car without gasoline, a camera without a film, a stereo without records.
